Is it a coincidence that at a time when US abuse of prisoners in Afghanistan, and US interrogators in Guantanamo Bay desecrating the Koran caused global outrage, a picture of Saddam in his undies was leaked to a British newspaper.
Stories of abuse and sacrilege were pushed aside in favour of Saddam washing his socks.
Could it be that mass coverage of the new cause of outrage was the lesser of the US evils? After all, he was a brutal dictator; who is going to care too much?
Or maybe they actually thought that publishing the photo would gain the gratitude of the Iraqi people, by showing how good ole Uncle Sam had taken a hickory stick to the tyrant who wore an Iraqi, and not American uniform?A pity that so many of the grateful Iraqi people would be, The Grateful Dead
