Outsourcing - in or out?

Is outsourcing, in or out? A simple question but not even the experts seem able to agree.

According to a report on Vnunet - Outsourcing out of favour user group, NCC claim outsourcing is not on the agenda for nearly 75% of IT organisations.

However, if you are looking for reasons to outsource, then you may prefer two reports by Gartner and The Yankee Group.

Red Herring reports that, "Outsourcing Gains Momentum."

Personally, I am in favour of outsourcing. I favour any solution as long as the solution solves the problem.

However, all too often businesses jump on the latest management fad without fully considering short and long terms issues. Already some companies that have used outsourcing, are beginning to wish they hadn't.

Outsourcing often results in loss of internal control, and in some cases, longer working hours as video conferences are arranged to suit different time zones.

Remember, if you are considering outsourcing, there are other factors apart from cost to consider.
