Australian Industrial Relations laws - the ACTU is out to scare you

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has launched an $8 million advertising campaign against the Federal Government's new industrial relations (IR) laws.

Along with the usual clichés being employed to convince Australians, that the long overdue reforms are a blow to the rights of the Australian worker, the campaign is largely based on scaremongering.

It goes without saying, that little attention is paid to the rights of the people who employ and pay their wages, which have recently increased by $17 per week.

One TV ad depicts a distraught mum desperately looking for someone to look after her sick child. She can't stay home because her employer has threatened to sack her. No doubt, the next series of ads will feature songs by Red Sovine.
