China starts trial of offshore coal mine

China has started exploitation of its first offshore coal mine in the eastern Shandong Province.

The underwater coal mine, located about five kilometres away from the coast of Longkou city in eastern Shandong, has a proven reserve of 1.29 billion tonnes of coal, experts with the Shandong Longkuang Group said.It is the first offshore coal mine in China.
