Comment: Katie Wernecke - too many inconsistencies

Recently I posted an article voicing my concern over statements made in the Wernecke family blog, a blog that includes technically detailed posts written by 12 year old "Katie".

The blog mentions many things, especially about the power of prayer and the agendas of drug companies and doctors. However, there are a few things it does not mention. It does not mention that the family has a long history of non cooperation with the CPS.

Documents obtained by KRISTV in Corpus Christie, TX, state that "Throughout the history of CPS's involvement, Edward Wernecke has denied any access to his residence or to his children."

This involvement dates back to 2000 when Katie was only 7. She and her brother, "were observed to be sitting in a culvert beside a busy highway."

The father claimed he passed out because he was hypoglycemic, which may explain reports that syringes were left around the house.

The next year, a complaint alleged that "the family is living in 'filth'" and "the smell from the house was reported to be 'putrid'."

The Houston Chronicle on June 10, reported, "The siblings, three boys, were reunited with the parents Friday morning following a CPS inspection of the home.CPS spokesman Darrell Azar said there had been "conditions at the house that concerned us".

I am not surprised. There is a lot about this case that concern me also. The family attorney Daniel Horne, stated that doctors, "did not answer all their questions about the side effects of the radiation".

Yet in the blog, they boast about their knowledge of the subject. This is one of many such posts.

"We believe the radiation may not be necessary at this time. She is at risk for injury from the radiation treatments that far exceed their benefit. Research has shown the five year survival rate for Chemo alone to be superior to Chemo + Radiation. Believe, me I have spent much time researching this before reaching this conclusion".

Although blog is full of inconsistencies, throughout the blog, the parents consistently give the perception that they know more than the doctors.

No matter what doctors say, they will believe only what they want to believe. Answers that suit their agenda. They even advertise for, "Someone willing to say after looking at the facts that the radiation treatments may cause more harm than good at this time".

In addition to Katie, the Wernecke's have three boys aged 2, 5 and 14. They were taken into custody and reunited with their parents on Friday.

The parents claim that the boys were taken away because a social worker mistook a watermelon seed for rat excrement. There is always a reason why so many things happen to this family.

I wonder who the father will blame for the fact that upon their return home, the two younger boys, "were saddened to find that a boxful of their pet frogs had died from neglect".

There are also a number of reports claiming the parents rarely visited Katie while in hospital. Many of these are posted to the Wernecke family blog.

There are too many inconsistencies in their story for me to believe that these two agenda pushers have any credibility.
