Comment: British Gas to outsource jobs to India - but you wont get me I'm part of the union

British Gas is planning to transfer up to 2000 jobs to India. The company intends cutting jobs at four offices in Manchester, Oldham and Solihull cities in the West Midlands.

Despite the fact that British Gas is facing financial pressure, the unions are of course, bandying around the usual slogans and uninformed comments so popular with the Cliche Mafia (they would make good Usenet Republicans).
British Gas lost 445,000 customers this year and 1.1million last year. Wholesale gas prices are around 51 per cent higher than a year ago.

Yet this does not stop Brian Strutton, of the GMB union saying: "British Gas makes big profits from customers and they should support British jobs or the British people will not support them. We have already told the company not to go ahead with this decision."

Told?

I feel an old Strawbs song coming on.
Now I'm a union man
Amazed at what I am
I say what I think
That the company stinks
Yes I'm a union man.

When we meet in the local hall
I'll be voting with them all
With a hell of a shout
It's out brothers out
And the rise of the factory's fall.

And thanks to the trade unions, we have seen a lot of factories fall.
