A survey by GE Commercial Finance, shows that small businesses in Britain are finding it more difficult to recruit skilled staff than their counterparts in other European countries.
Over 40% of British firms said finding skilled staff is a “major concern”. In Germany, only 20% claim to have the same problem.
British firms are also less concerned about the threat posed by competition from low wage countries.
On a side note, for those of you who may be interested, there is an excellent paper by Alla Lileeva (York University,) that investigates the effect that globalization and an increase in import competition from low-wage countries have on the volume and composition of Canadian manufacturing output.
