A phone survey by Novations/J. Howard & Associates reveals that intolerance is still rife in the workplace.
Almost a third of respondents had heard racial slurs and 20 per cent had reported discrimination based on sexual orientation.
It appears the northern-eastern states are more tolerant with only 14 per cent experiencing sexually oriented slurs compared to 24 per cent in the south.
Although the survey was carried out in the U.S. I have little doubt that despite legislation and awareness programs, Australia would return similar results.
