Advertising: Indian banks in ATM ad controversy

The Indian Supreme Court has questioned if illuminated signboards on top of ATMs amount to advertisements by banks. The banks claim the signs are used as location guide to customers.

If they are classed as advertisements, this would make them liable to pay licence fees to municipal authorities.
