Blogging: Potential legal hazards for corporations

There is an interesting article written by Martha Graybow (Reuters), that appears on Cyber India Online Ltd regarding the potential legal hazards when employees are let loose in the blogosphere.

As the popularity of corporate blogs grows, so do potential legal issues. For example, the real possibility that someone at a publicly traded company unwittingly divulges confidential financial information or a trademark secret on a corporate blog.

Paul Arne, co-chairman of the technology group at law firm Morris Manning & Martin LLP said: "There's very, very little case law at this point."

Some time ago in an article on corporate email policy, I cited examples of companies suffering financial loss due to non-thinking employees making careless or irresponsible remarks in email correspondence.

It is only a matter of time before a careless remark on a corporate blog will end up costing a corporation a significant amount of money. Hopefully, it will also cost the blogger their job.
