Needless to say, the "mate" controversy has been raging here all day, with every drover and his dog getting involved in the debate.
I can think of no other country where a simple directive advising staff working at Parliament House, not to use the word "mate" when dealing with members and visitors, would cause politicians from all parties to fall over themselves to have their say on talk back radio and in the press. Little Johnny Howard hit the Sydney airwaves this morning, with others quickly following suit.
Strewth, give me a break. It was a silly directive, but I would rather our politicians and media public opinion shapers, focus their attention on rather more pressing matters.
Perhaps they should follow the example of the current affairs program called "Current Affair" who last night advised viewers they could learn how to "save up to 400 per cent on your mobile phone bill."
Recently I have been sprucing up the blog by adding a photograph to introduce the mornings posts and one to say, "goodnight." These are photographs I have taken myself - if anyone wants to use them, I have no objection. If you would like the full size version, drop me a line and I can send it to you.
I had this really whiz bang, blue sky idea of using a night time photo for the last post - but my night-time photography is even worse than during the day!
Wherever you may be mates and matesses - be safe!
