Friday night in this old town and time for me to sign off with a few bits and pieces of local news.
A Pastor and two Bible studies teachers from a Korean church in my neighbouring suburb, were jailed today for bashing a 19-year-old Korean woman because they thought she had been disrespectful to her parents, stopped attending church and spent too much time on her web page.
They took her to an isolated park and for two hours beat and kicked her, leaving her with extensive bruising on her legs, arms and buttocks.
Not content with that, they later went to her house and destroyed her portable CD player.
One of the "men" and I use the word against my better judgement, weighs 286 pounds. Of course, they didn't meant to hurt her - they said things got out of hand.
One attacker told the court that in future if people had problems, he would attempt to counsel them using the teachings of the bible.
One man was sentenced to 12 months in jail, the other two received a six month sentence.
The photo tonight is not exactly picturesque. It is however, a wonderfully organised reconstruction project in my neighbouring suburb of Chatswood.
The empty space you see (with steps leading up to it) used to be an overhead shopping, business and leisure centre. The development is part of a "green belt" scheme.
The greening of Chatswood has been made possible partly because the NSW Government bought the head lease of the old shopping centre straddling the line, allowing its demolition.
The railway line and station will be elevated, which provided a range of options. This includes covering the line with a slab that will be landscaped as a green terrace. Eventually this will join the Remembrance Gardens and Chatswood Oval, creating green space through Chatswood.
Clicking on the picture will give a better idea of the work in progress.
Wherever you may be - be safe!
