Bangladesh may change to a five-day work week and raise fuel prices to combat soaring energy costs.
Currently Bangladesh has a six-day work week, (beginning Saturday and ending Thursday afternoon. Friday, the Muslim holy day, is the only holiday) but Finance Minister M. Saifur Rahman, has said this may have to be cut by a day to reduce energy consumption: "We have to introduce new measures, sometimes completely reverse to the decisions taken lately to keep pace with the everyday changes in the global economy."
