Motoring: A navigation system that tells you where to go

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that a Melbourne University researcher wants to develop a satellite navigation system that gives directions the way a human does - "Turn left at the park. Take your first right after the service station and then right again by the bus shelter."

Stephan Winter says, "When people give directions they use landmarks, not the geometric distance forms that are currently used by car navigation services."

He is hoping to test a prototype on tourists during the next Commonwealth Games.
