Politics: Coup in Mauritania

Army troops in the north-west African nation of Mauritania have taken over the armed forces headquarters, state radio and television buildings in the capital, Nouakchott.

The troops moved into the buildings early in the morning. They have also blocked off access to the presidential palace.
