Social: Call for free condoms and morning after pill in schools

Despite the fact that generally, Australia has excellent sex education, and although the number of teen pregnancies and abortions has fallen in recent years, Australia still lags behind many western European countries.

Although Australia's teen pregnancy rate is lower than the United States, the fact that we are so far behind Finland, the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, has led to a call for school clinics to distribute free condoms and morning-after-pills. A similar trial has been successful in New Zealand.

One expert in teenage sexual health has advised that boys should be taught how to use condoms properly - in fact, some schools are already doing this.

Thankfully, the days when you went into a chemist and came out with a comb, are rapidly vanishing.
