Gas Prices: What we pay in Sydney

Many of my U.S. friends and clients have been asking me the price of petrol in Sydney. This is always a difficult question for me as, (1) I don't drive (2) prices here are "per litre," and I have to convert everything!

In Sydney, prices in some areas have reached AUS$1.30 per litre, (approximately US$0.99) and are expected to go as high as AUS$1.60 (US$1.22). A litre = 0.26 US Gallons. In other words, if you want a gallon of petrol, you wont get much change from US$4.

Figures released a few days ago reveal that the average cost of running a family sedan in Sydney is $200 (US$153). This is almost a quarter of the average weekly wage of AUS$782 (US$598). A Toyota Landcruiser Sahara costs about $346 a week (US$264).

And people think I am mad for not wanting a car!
