Goodnight from Sydney

It's Friday night and time to relax a little and say goodnight.

Time to reflect on what has been happening and what I have been seeing and hearing.

Because one aspect of my work involves the gathering and analysis of news and information, I have media feeds open most of the time. I have always had keyword alerts for news involving death.

The last few years, I have seen too many such alerts. I have become hardened in many ways.

Yet today is different. Not just because of the still unknown number of lives that Katrina destroyed in her terrifying and cruel onslaught - but because I can not believe what I am seeing, reading and hearing.

I am not watching some far fetched disaster movie. There is no Tom Hanks to come to the rescue and marry the woman he miraculously rescues. There is just chaos, murder, and sheer bloody incompetency that is hard for us to imagine or understand.

I usually sign of with "wherever you may be - be safe."

Hasn't worked too well lately has it.

The photo tonight is of Chatswood - a suburb near me.
