That's the lot for today!
A few years ago communities here gladly received refugees from East Timor. There were bands and banners, balloons and parties to welcome them.
Pillars of the community and the blue rinse set would say, "Poor things, they are such nice people and they've had it so hard."
For a while, "chook" raffles, (chook=chicken) would be held to raise funds. The children were welcomed into the schools and communities.
Then - the refugees started wanting jobs. They wanted to be part of the community in reality - not just in TV or radio interviews.
"Why can't they go home?" replaced the words of welcome.
Perhaps you can see where I am heading with this. Perhaps I will be wrong.
