Human Resources: Malaysian SMEs told to focus on human capital

SMEs in Malaysia have been told they need to focus on enhancing human capital and technology to be competitive in the local and global arena.

Small and Medium Industries Development Corp chairman Datuk Kalsom Abdul Rahman, said that one of the problems faced by industries, especially those involved in high-technology activities, is difficulty in retaining talented staff.

"To overcome this problem, companies will need to be innovative in their hiring and retention programmes."

Even though I have been in the industry for some time, I still find it amazing that small business owners spend the time and money to be told the bleeding obvious.

There seems to be a mindset among many, that common sense and logic have to be written in a book or explained by a keynote speaker before it becomes acceptable.
