International Development: China to eradicate poverty among ethnic minorities

China has announced that it will eliminate poverty among the ethnic minorities with smaller population within five years.

The Information Office of the State Council, has said: "For the 640 administrative villages inhabited by ethnic minorities with smaller population, departments concerned should make plans for each village, give aid one by one, and improve them one by one, so as to change these villages by stages and in groups."

The last time I heard a similar statement was in the late 80s, when then Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke, said that no child will live in poverty by 1990.

The two statements have the same credibility rating and no doubt will share the same outcome.
