The Daily Yomiuri reports that a Japanese man who lost his son in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, is establishing a training facility for Afghan children in an attempt to stop the cycle of violence.
Haruhiro Shiratori wants to provide support for children in Afghanistan, by building a training facility in Kabul, where they can meet and communicate with people from around the world.
The city government has helped by leasing him land for the facility which will be called the Paranda-e Safid Memorial Park. Paranda means bird and safid means white in Dari, one of the languages spoken in Afghanistan. The white bird, translates as shiratori, his own name, and is a symbol of peace in Afghanistan.
