Katrina: Castro offers aid but told by the U.S. to keep quiet about it

Cuban President Fidel Castro, has offered to send 1,100 doctors and 26.4 tonnes of medicines to treat the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

He also claimed that American officials had asked Cuban authorities not to publicise their offer of aid - and that I can quite believe. It is consistent with the "Ugly American" attitude that the Bush administration has displayed towards their friends and allies when offered help.
