Siemens has announced a new type of colour display screen that can be printed onto paper or foil. Some may say - "so what", but wait, there's more!
It is so also so inexpensive that it can be used in disposable packaging. Can you see where I am heading with this?
Imagine walking down the supermarket aisle and being faced by a packet of corn flakes with it's own built in TV ads! Sure puts new meaning to the question, "what's on the box tonight". For those of you who are more adventurous, you can take a walk along the men's health section - provided of course you don't take any children under 18 with you.
Apparently the screens will be able to do everything a normal television can but with slightly lower quality. That makes it ideal for Australia where we are used to low quality television in more senses than one.
One interesting point raised by an excited advertising agency CEO, is what happens when you get home? Can you turn it off or does it just keep "broadcasting"?
It will certainly brighten up dentists waiting rooms. You can pick up the latest glossy magazine and watch the ads on each page!
Sadly you will have to wait until 2007 to experience this latest marvel that will give companies that marketing edge. Of course if everyone starts using it, that edge will soon become rather blunt.
