Advertising: Women's groups get their knickers in a twist over saucy ad to save tortoise eggs

NPR reports a new campaign to protect endangered sea tortoise eggs has been launched in Mexico. Women's groups are frothing at the mouth as the campaign features scantily clad Playboy model, singer and pin-up icon Dorismar, suggestively saying, "My man doesn't need tortoise eggs".

Claiming the ads are demeaning to women, the protesters apparently miss the point of the ad - sea tortoise eggs are reputed to boost male sexual powers and that belief has caused some species of tortoise close to extinction.

In other words, rather being suggestive just for the sake of having a nice bit of flesh flashed about, the ad targets the very cause of the problem - idiotic men and their hang ups.

Oops, poor choice of words perhaps.
