Imports: Selling sand to Bahrain

This may seem like an odd story but companies in Bahrain wishing to import sand from Saudi Arabia, can obtain licences from the Bahrain Investor's Centre.

New regulations regarding how Saudi sand can be imported to Bahrain mean that sand can now only be imported through the Saudi Bahrain Transport Company. Companies importing it must be registered with the ministry and be members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Gulf Daily News reports that sand prices in Bahrain have soared since Saudi banned sand exports in 2003, causing chaos in the construction industry.
