Industrial Relations: Hungary to set minimum wage

The Hungarian government has submitted a bill to Parliament ensuring that the minimum wage cannot be set at a rate lower than the subsistence level.

Unions are asking for a set minimum wage of $313 per month for 2006, and a 4% real wage increase. In reply, the government has offered $303. The government will also look at union proposals for a four-bracket personal income tax system.
