Industrial Relations: South Korea reluctant to take more workers from Bangladesh

Approximately 15,000 Bangladeshi workers in South Korea, have violated their work contracts. As a result, the South Korean government is hesitant to recruit more workers from Bangladesh.

Infringements included overstaying their visas, changing workplaces and migrating to Japan for higher wages.

South Korea is supposed to take 8,000 more Bangladeshi workers but according to the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies, South Korea is no longer showing any interest.

However, many of the workers are involved with trade unions in South Korea, as well as being backed by human rights groups.
