Telecommunications: Singapore legislation to stop misuse of mobile phones

Singapore is introducing new legislation to prevent terrorists and criminals using mobile phones. The law which comes into effect Nov 1, following the use of mobile phones to detonate three bombs in Thailand.

Sellers of pre-paid SIM cards will be required to ask for and electronically verify personal details of purchasers. All existing pre-paid SIM card users are also required to re-register with their respective mobile service providers.

Other restrictions include; purchasers must be at least 15 years old and sales will be restricted to ten cards per person.

Personally, I would welcome any legislation that makes it illegal for selfish dickheads to use mobile phones on a bus or train.
