Training - Training small groups - Encouraging learners to assess their own performance

Giving feedback is very helpful and necessary for your learners to know how they are progressing during their training. However, it is just as important that participants learn how to assess their own progress.

Here are a few techniques that learners can use for self assessment

* Asking other participants for feedback.

* Asking colleagues about specific aspects of their performance

* Discussing their workplace progress with a supervisor.

* Seeking follow up sessions with the trainer to discuss their performance.

* Keeping notes about the things they did well and ways they could improve.

* Reflecting on their own progress during and after the sessions.

* Setting personal goals for improving certain tasks.

* Finding someone to talk to about ways to improve.

* Learning from mistakes

The next article in the series will be Monday: Readiness for assessment
