Continuing the series, "Training Small Groups" presented by Mike Hitchen Consulting
Throughout the training session the skills and knowledge of the participants gradually increase and develop. At some point following the training the trainer needs to make a judgement as to whether participants are competent.
To make this judgement the trainer needs to know that the participants have achieved all of the training objectives. In order for this to occur competence has to be determined.
This can be achieved by:
* Observing participants during training.
* Asking colleagues on the job for feedback.
* Discussing their workplace performance with their supervisor, team leader, manager.
* Seeking follow-up sessions to discuss performance.
* Getting participants to assess their own progress can help them to identify their strengths and weaknesses. Techniques for self assessment include:
* Identifying their skills and knowledge against competency standards, workplace procedures etc.
*Asking for feedback from colleagues
* Discussing progress with supervisors.
* Reflecting on their own progress.
* Setting personal goals for improvement.
