Bangladesh will approach China, Thailand and Myanmar to propose an amendment to the Asian Highway route going through the country. on its behalf in the working group meeting of Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
Because Bangladesh has not yet ratified the Asian Highway agreement, it needs a third country to make the proposal that would make the Dhaka-Yangon route via Teknaf, the number one Asian Highway route.
Bangladeshi Communications Minister Nazmul Huda, said: "We are not ready to sign any agreement giving transit to India".
Dec 31 this year has been set the deadline for ratifying the UN-ESCAP agreement on the giant road network that will connect 42 Asian countries with Europe.
