U.N: Despite U.S. objections, Cuba re-elected to Economic and Social Council of the United Nations

Cuba has been re-elected for a fourth term as a member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Cuban Ambassador Orlando Requeijo, said this shows the international community's support for Cuba. It goes without saying that the U.S. tried to prevent Cuba from being re-elected. However, they made no effort to prevent executives from U.S. energy companies meeting with their Cuban counterparts to discuss the potential for oil and gas ventures between the two countries.
