Youth: 20 per cent of Taiwanese girls have considered suicide

A recent survey of 11,883 students from 21 schools across Taiwan, shows an increasing number of young people who have contemplated suicide.

The study revealed that 20 percent of the interviewed female subjects have thought about suicide at least once during the past month, while 10 percent of males considered suicide. Approximately six percent of the girls attempted suicide, much higher than 0.34 per cent of boys.

Some of the reasons cited are perhaps "understandable", but there are two factors that consistently appear in similar studies around the world - two that should never appear at all. Expectations from parents and domestic violence at home.
