International Development: "Panty Protest" in Philippines

The Inquirer News Service, reports that female members of Akbayan party-list and Manggagawang Kababaihan Mithi ay Paglaya (Makalaya), staged a "Panty protest" against poverty. During the protest on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women,knickers were hoisted on bamboo poles in a symbolic display of protest.

According to an organiser, "The panty symbolizes a woman's private space which is intruded upon when it is removed".
