Shipbuilding: Russia buys icebreakers form South Korea

Samsung Heavy Industries, has received a Russian order to build three icebreaking oil tankers valued at $424 million. A company statement said it is the first time a Korean shipbuilder has won a contract for icebreaking carriers.

Russian shipping company Sovcomflot, will use the icebreakers to transport crude from the Varandei oil port in the Barents Sea for a joint venture set up by LUKoil and U.S.-based ConocoPhillips.
