Environment: Restrictions on car use in smog covered Tehran

In an effort to reduce pollution, motorists in Iran's capital Tehran, will only be able to use their cars in central Tehran on odd or even days according to the last figure on the number plate. The move was announced by police chief Esmail Ahmadi Moghaddam and will be effective Sunday through to next Thursday.

Pollution has been so bad recently that schools have been shut down since Tuesday and office workers told to stay indoors for two days.
