Gas: French company propose gas terminal off Florida coast

Suez, a Paris based company, has proposed building a natural gas terminal in the Atlantic Ocean about 10 miles off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Included in the plan is the construction of pipelines that would enable tankers to unload natural gas at a terminal from which the gas would be piped to power plants.

According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the company intends to file an application with the Coast Guard in the next few months. Once the application has been lodged, the Coast Guard will formulate an environmental impact statement to evaluate issues such as risks to marine life.
