Goodnight from Sydney

Yesterday was a very encouraging day for both myself and Mel. It was a beautiful Boxing Day and I decided to take a walk to a place I hadn't been for some time.

It isn't all that far from me, and can walk there in about 15 - 20 minutes. In fact, it's in the same street, (a bloody long street, but the same one all the same!). It's funny how we can so often neglect those places that are almost under our noses.

It was a very hot day and it's not an easy walk - especially coming back as it is all up-hill and I am over-the-hill. I thought I had completed my recent course of treatment and I guess I was a little disappointed that it needs to be continued. But the walk proved to me that there is still life in the old dog yet! I reached the bay without any problem and much to my surprise, wasn't desperate for a sit down!

Do you see that little jetty? I walked to the end and sat down and watched the jumping fish and the boats heading out of the bay. There was hardly a soul around and although the main road was very close, all I heard was the sound of silence and the sound of a heart saying, "gee, this is nice - why don't you do this more often you silly sod?".

I have learned that it is often wise to listen to your heart, even though it may sometimes lead you on a journey that can be akin to riding a saddle-less bicycle on cobblestones. Because once you get there, your heart will say, "see, I told you it was worth it" and all you can do is nod your head and agree.
