Human Resources: Hundreds gather in India for World Disability Day

World Disability Day: Hundreds of physically challenged people have gathered in New Delhi, to demand equal opportunities and access to better education and integrated learning systems.

Arun C Roy, director of The Deaf Way, a Delhi based NGO said: "The community deserves equality not sympathy. In the name of social justice and welfare the country is not doing any good towards physically challenged people. The bureaucratic mindset of sympathy and favour should change immediately".

Javed Abidi, executive director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), said: "Disability is a human resource issue and it should not be considered a matter of social justice. If the potential of these persons is developed, then India will progress fast".
