Medicine: Ghanaian NGO discovers treatment for Guinea worm

A Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organization called Hope In Africa (HIA), appear to have discovered a plant medicine for treating the excruciating disease of guinea worm.

The Ghana News Agency, reports that the medicine has been certified by the Mampong Center for Research into Plant Medicine, and proved successful in the treatment of 40 out of 43 victims of guinea worm. So far, the medicine has no known side effects.

Guinea worm, is a parasitic worm infection that occurs mainly in Africa. Victims get infected when they drink standing water containing a tiny water flea that is infected with the even tinier larvae of the Guinea worm. Until now, there was no known cure.
