Technology: Ho Chi Minh City urged to expand software industry

The software industry in Ho Chi Minh City, has been told to aim for a target of $400-450 million by the end of 2010.

Nguyen Trong, head of the municipal Software Development Program, said that authorities should ensure that HMC has a minimum of five large software companies employing at least 1,000 programmers, 10 companies employing more than 500 programmers, 100 firms with 100 or more programmers and 500 smaller companies.

Vietnamese software companies have been uncompetitive in the global market with only a few attracting orders from the lucrative Japanese and American markets.
