India's President A.P.J Abdul Kalam, has said that India should aim to triple its garment exports to $18 billion 2010.
To achieve this goal, he suggested a five point plan that includes the creation of exclusive design centers drawing on India's fashion design centers, developing the national market, elevating the skills of weavers and upgrading looms, creating an "India brand" for handloom products through a nation-wide project, and ensuring availability of yarn at reasonable prices to weavers.
