Women's Issues: Central African Republic warns media against hostility to women

Media executives in Central African Republic (CAR), have been warned against airing programs that are hostile towards women.

After hearing programs that played songs that were discrimatory and hostile towards women, including statements that women should be beaten if they misbehave, Communication Minister Fidel Ngouandjika, warned that he would take firm action against media that aired such content.

However, Gounengai Wanfio, the head of the CAR Human Rights League, said Ngouandjikas remarks were misdirected and failed to deal with a larger social issue.

Maybe, but if the minister turns words into actions, it is a step forward. Too many agenda pushers, spend too much time searching for and focusing on negatives.
