Economy: Figures claim Tibet records double-digit economic growth

Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the regional government, has stated that Tibet has registered a GDP growth rate of over 12 percent for the fifth straight year in 2005. According to Qiangba, the regional GDP grew to around $3 billion - aided by the support of other Chinese provinces and municipalities

In addition, the per capita income of local farmers and herdsmen topped 2,000 yuan ($250) last year, posing a double-digit growth for the third straight year.
