Environment: Kenyan police burn homes of 4,000 forest squatters

Australia's ABC News Online, carries an AFP report, that police in Kenya have burned down the homes of around 4,000 squatters. More than 300 grass-thatched huts in the Eburru forest, were destroyed during a long-running tussle between landless squatters and the government. The 12,000-acre forest is considered a key water catchment basin for the region.

In burning the homes, authorities were defying a court order to stop evictions after 50,000 homeless were evicted in another forest.
