It appears that the British government is finally preparing to downsize its unwieldy public service and ship many services overseas. The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), is expected to be the first to outsource its call centres and some other functions to India.
A confidential document "Offshoring process", obtained by the Public and Commercial Services Union, states: "In line with the continuing need for government departments to reduce costs, proposals are being made by services providers to undertake work for or on behalf of the department overseas."
"This could involve the transfer of part or even all of the functions of a DWP area of business that would have previously been located in the UK to a centre located outside of the UK." The document was written by the DWP security team.
The union of course continued to gaze starry eyed at the small picture, expressing all the usual touchy-feely, non-sensical concerns.
