International Relations: Russia and Belarus discuss union state

Russia and Belarus, have discussed the creation of a union state between the two countries.

The idea was first discussed in 1997, but the latest meeting saw the signing of a number of accords including agreements on union property, social and medical services and easing of travel.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, and his Belarussian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko, also ordered their governments to draft a program of joint actions in foreign policy.
