Retail: Qatar pulls Danish products from the shelves

Major retail outlets in Qatar, have pulled Danish products from their shelves in response a boycott call given by Islamic scholars across the Arab and Muslim world.

The popular stores chain, Al Mira, withdrew Danish products from all of its 31 outlets across Qatar, and erected a notice board declaring in Arabic: "No Danish products are on sale at any of our 31 outlets".

The move follows Denmark's silence after the country's largest newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, ran 12 cartoons in September, including one in which the Prophet Mohammed is portrayed wearing a turban shaped in a bomb. Islam considers images of prophets disrespectful and caricatures of them blasphemous.
