Steel: China major factor in increased global steel production
According to figures released by the International Iron and Steel Institute, global crude steel production increased by 5.9% in 2005, to reach a total of 1,129.4 million metric tons. China accounted for most of the increase with production rising by 24.6% and a world market share of 26.3%. However, China's steel production is outstripping demand.
